Where Melody Meets Meaning

  Most people don’t realize that our Tefilah has a rich soundtrack hidden in plain sight — a centuries-old musical code called Nusach that tells us where we are in the Siddur, marks the date on the calendar, shapes the emotion of each prayer, and serves as a musical Peirush, carrying whispers of Midrash in its melodies.
   As Scholar-in-Residence, I open this hidden world over a Shabbos that blends meaningful Tefilah, live musical “aha” moments, and hands-on learning:
   · Lead inspiring Tefilos as a Shliach Tzibur.
   · Present “Informances” - part performance, part shiur - revealing how melodies guide us through the Siddur, interpret the words of Davening, deepen Kavannah, and help us more fully express ourselves to Hashem.
   · Facilitate Practical Tefilah Workshops so participants can confidently lead as Shliach Tzibur or follow along with greater awareness and insider knowledge.  Your community will leave with a deeper, multi-layered experience of Davening — where words and music illuminate each other in a way they’ll carry into every future Tefilah.

About Me

Rabbi Jonah Sieger is a sought-after, voice-trained Chazzan. He studied at the Belz School of Jewish Music, where he received instruction from Cantor Joseph Malovany and Cantor Sherwood Goffin. During his time there, he acquired a deep understanding of the art and nuances of Nusach Hatefilah. Originally hailing from Los Angeles, Rabbi Sieger received his Semicha from RIETS and studied under Rav Michael Rosensweig, Rabbi Mayer Twersky, and Rabbi Daniel Feldman among others.
Rabbi Sieger completed his master's degree at the Azrieli School of Jewish Education. Rabbi Sieger is a 4th and 5th grade Rebbe and administrator at Kohelet Yeshiva Lab School in Bala Cynwyd, PA.

There's One Secret Holding You Back From Being a Confident Ba'al Tefilah

Maybe you've stood near the amud and felt your stomach drop. Maybe you've been leading Tefilos for years, but something still feels like it's not quite right, like there's another gear you haven't unlocked yet. Maybe you've never had the chance to try at all, and you've quietly assumed that some people are just "musical" and some people aren't.Here's the secret: being a Ba'al Tefilah isn't a talent. It's a skill. Nusach is a pattern, a set of musical motifs that repeat throughout a Tefilah, and once you can hear the pattern, you can learn it. Once you can learn it, you can lead it.That's what the Ba'al Tefilah Academy is built around: helping people become confident and skilled Shluchei Tzibur.

What This IsThe Ba'al Tefilah Academy is a 1-on-1 or small group course that builds real skill and consistency at the amud. You'll learn to recognize the Nusach as a pattern, apply that pattern to the words of Tefilah, and walk away ready to lead the Tefilos you've learned with confidence.

Who This Is For

How It WorksSessions are built around specific Tefilos, so you're always working toward something concrete you can actually use in Shul. Courses currently available:

Some Tefilos aren't just one Nusach, but several. Shabbos Shacharis, for example, moves through three or four distinct Nuschaos at different points along the way, and you'll learn to recognize and apply each one as it comes. More courses are in development, including Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur Tefilos.

Why Learn With MeI'm a voice-trained Chazzan with over two decades of experience. I studied at the Belz School of Jewish Music under Cantor Joseph Malovany and Cantor Sherwood Goffin, where I built a deeper understanding of the structure of the musical motifs that accompany Tefilah. That's the same structure this course is built around: teaching Nusach as a musical pattern you can actually learn.I'm a veteran educator, currently teaching 4th and 5th grade at Kohelet Yeshiva Lab School. That combination of real musical training and real classroom experience is what makes me equally comfortable with a bar mitzvah student learning his first few lines and with an adult ready to lead from the amud.
